OneStat: New browsers take on Internet Explorer
Jun 26 2002: While Microsoft still dominates the Web browser market, its market share has slipped slightly over the past few weeks, following the launch of two new browsers.

Internet Explorer 6.0 is the most popular browser on the Web with a market share of 46.4 percent, a rise of 1.7 percent since April.

As of June 21, 2002, all versions of the Microsoft browsers accounted for 95.3 percent of the global usage share market. However, Microsoft’s share has dropped by 1.3 percent since April, when it stood at 96.6 percent.

The decline in market share is attributed to the recent releases of Mozilla 1.0 and Netscape 7.0.

Mozilla has shown a fast adoption rate with a global usage share of 0.4 percent in the first two weeks of its public launch, while the total global usage share of Netscape 7.0 stands at 0.3 percent.

The total global usage share of Netscape has risen by 0.6 percent since April to reach 3.4 percent.

Opera’s global usage share has also grown to 0.7 percent, a rise of 0.2 percent since April.

The most popular browsers on the Web are: Microsoft IE6 with a market share of 46.4 percent, Microsoft IE5.5 with 23.9 percent, Microsoft IE 5.0 with 23.6 percent, Netscape Navigator 4.0 with 1.4 percent, and Microsoft IE 4.0 with 1.2 percent.
